At a glance

  • Conducting body: Staff Selection Commission

  • Qualification: An engineering qualification in the relevant branch is required, and it varies by department and post. Read the essential qualification paragraph in the notice.

  • Age limit: Set per post in the notice. Check the cut-off date and the relaxation table.

  • Selection: Two computer-based papers. Paper I covers general intelligence and reasoning, general awareness and general engineering for your branch; Paper II is a longer engineering paper for the same branch.

Stages to expect

  • Paper I: general intelligence and reasoning (50 questions), general awareness (50) and general engineering (100) in 2 hours.

  • Paper II: general engineering for the chosen branch, 100 questions carrying 300 marks, in 2 hours.

How to prepare

Your branch paper is the largest component. Revise core subjects from your diploma or degree notes and solve past-style numericals regularly.

Keep reasoning and general awareness ticking over in short sessions so they do not become the weak link in Paper I.

Before you apply

Every cycle publishes its own notice, and it overrides anything summarised here. Save the notice, check its reference and any corrigendum, confirm qualification and age dates, and apply only through the official portal. No one can promise you a selection, so avoid anyone who does.
