The day before
Download your admit card or admission certificate and read every instruction on it. Check the reporting time, the venue address, the shift and the list of items allowed or prohibited. Many exams do not allow mobile phones, smart watches or electronic devices inside the centre.
Documents to carry
Printed admit card, with the photograph clearly visible.
The original photo ID named in the instructions.
Any extra photographs or declarations the notice asks for.
A transparent pen or the pens specified for OMR sheets.
Plan the journey
Check the route to the centre in advance, and if possible visit it earlier. Allow extra time for traffic, weather and queues. In the monsoon, carry a waterproof folder for your documents. Stay close to the centre if the journey is long.
Do not revise new topics
On the last evening, review your formula sheet, error log and short notes. Avoid learning new topics. Eat a normal dinner and sleep early.
Morning routine
Eat a light breakfast, carry water if permitted and reach the centre early. Switch off electronic devices as required, and follow the instructions of the invigilators. If you notice any issue with your admit card, such as a mismatch, report it at the help desk immediately.
At the desk
Read the instructions on the paper or screen carefully.
Check that the question paper is the correct set, with all pages present.
For OMR, fill in roll number and set code carefully.
For a computer-based exam, check your name, photograph and subject on the screen.
Time plan
Decide your section order and your skipping rule in advance. After the first pass, use the remaining time for marked questions and a final check.
Handling nerves
If you feel anxious, breathe slowly, relax your shoulders and read the first question calmly. One difficult question is not the whole exam. Do not look around to compare progress.
After the exam
Note down the questions you remember and the sections that went well. Keep your admit card and any acknowledgement. Wait for the official answer key and notice rather than rely on rumours about cut-offs.
A printable list for your bag
Admit card printed clearly, and a second copy kept at home.
Original photo ID and any extra photographs asked for.
Approved pens, a clear water bottle if allowed, and a small snack for after the exam.
Cash for travel and a charged phone kept switched off or left at home as the rules require.
A watch only if the instructions allow it.
Plan for the unexpected
If your transport is delayed, contact the centre only through official numbers and avoid taking risky shortcuts. If the admit card is lost, go to the help desk of the recruiting body or log in to the portal to download it again. Having a family member who knows your schedule and can help with printing or travel adds a useful safety net.
